About the team

The Stripe Product Accounting Team is responsible for supporting all products at Stripe, consulting on accounting implications and supporting teams' ability to make informed strategic decisions. We are responsible for the accurate and timely recording of all business-generated transactions on our balance sheet and income statement. We operate in a fast-paced environment and collaborate significantly with cross-functional and international teams.

What you’ll do

Stripe is seeking an experienced accountant to join its world class Accounting team and help us scale for the future, in a fast-paced environment that is growing rapidly. In this role you will support our Payments and Payment Products margin accounting, leveraging your technical expertise with US GAAP, specifically ASC 606, to quickly identify accounting implications and impacts to customers while advising and collaborating with team members cross-functionally to develop operational processes that help us scale.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable accounting processes to support global growth in payment processing accounting
• Partner closely with our product, go-to-market, partnerships, and finance partners to thoroughly understand new products, features, and contracts, and advise on accounting implications
• Partner with internal systems, product, treasury, tax, and engineering teams to support internal financial systems and automation of accounting processes
• Research and prepare technical accounting analyses for new accounting pronouncements and/or business initiatives 
• Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, and design new processes and controls for emerging and growing business activities
• Develop and maintain up-to-date accounting policies and procedural documentation
• Plan, perform, and review monthly and quarterly close activities, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analyses and analytical reviews, producing internal management reporting and financial reporting deliverables and external audit support

Who you are

Minimum requirements

• 7+ years of relevant public accounting and/or industry experience in accounting
• B.A. or B.S degree in Accounting or Finance (CA/CPA strongly preferred)
• Fluency in U.S. GAAP and ability to research complex accounting issues 
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, both written and verbal, with ability to convey financial concepts to both financial and non-financial audiences 
• Strong knowledge of Excel and experience working with large data sets, often coming from multiple sources
• Demonstrated experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience with internal controls (design, implementation and execution) 
• Demonstrated history of taking on various types of challenging projects and producing results, with excellent attention to detail 
• Solution-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for establishing best practices, and challenging existing processes to identify improvement opportunities 

Preferred qualifications

• CA/CPA or similar qualification
• Experience using SQL to self-service information 
• Payments or tech industry experience
