Manager, Business Controller

The Business Controllers team serves as Finance's "One-DRI" (Directly Responsible Individual) for all product launches that have financial impact at Coinbase. Created to support the company's rapid growth and product expansion, the team acts as the central coordinator bringing together stakeholders from across finance—including accounting, tax, treasury, credit risk, and operations—to ensure new products launch smoothly without compromising financial integrity, audit readiness, or regulatory compliance. 

To be successful In this position, the candidate must have strong working knowledge in crypto products to be able to review new product launches across , determine impacts for Finance and ensure all the right stakeholders are informed and consulted. This will involve a high degree of cross-functional coordination, willingness to adapt and flex as the business evolves and ability to solve complex problems quickly. Developing effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders is essential as this role plays an important central role in planning, coordination and execution of all Finance functions to support new deals. You’ll work closely with accounting, tax, legal, financial risk, Treasury and operations to facilitate trade review and be a trusted partner to the business. The team is growing and has excellent potential for future development in a number of areas.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties): 

• Review high volume of new products and work with your team members to assess financial impact such as accounting treatment, tax implications, risk and operational factors.
• Document flow of funds and work cross functionally within Finance and IT to ensure product data is flowing accurately front to back, from the customer facing portals, all the way through to financial reporting.
• Build strong relationships as a trusted business partner to the Product, Engineering and Design teams and develop deep understanding of future product roadmaps to enable Finance to plan accordingly
• Work with the business and process owners to scope, design, and implement controls to address key risks where necessary and ensure operating effectiveness of financial controls
• Participate in a variety of ad-hoc projects that support the overall growth of the Finance team and Coinbase as a whole.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements): 

• Bachelor’s degree and CPA Certification required
• 8+ years of experience, including financial audit/attestation or technical accounting preferably in a Big Four firm or a public company’s accounting function or a combination thereof
• Experience in derivatives and Financing products operations and/or risk management from a large Bank or Broker/Dealer environment
• Highly motivated and proactive with strong project management, organizational, oral and written communication skills
• Ability to partner with business and technology leaders to identify solutions to complex accounting issues and communicate them using non-technical language
• Comfortable in a hyper growth environment, taking initiative, managing through ambiguity and delivering at a fast pace

Nice to haves: 

• Working knowledge of Netsuite, Workiva and G-suite tools
• Deep knowledge and experience in assessing accounting treatment for complex products where limited regulatory guidance exists
